Creating a Memorial Hall for the future

Autumn is already making itself felt, and the Memorial Hall can look back on a really positive Summer, and forward to lots of developments in the coming months. Of course the big day was the Village Show, which was a great success and everyone had a really good time. The Memorial Hall Committee ran the “Tea and Cakes”, and thanks to the huge eff orts of Adam, Laurence, Peter and many others, both donating comestibles and their time, raised the simply astonishing fi gure of £768.92. Every penny of this goes to the repair, maintenance and future of the Hall, and the Committee extends heartfelt thanks to all those who contributed to this magnificent result.

The big project this year is the great improvement planned for the Ladies and Gents toilets in the Hall. The Committee has looked at around a dozen different layouts for the new loos, and have taken advice from highly experienced planners. The Committee have decided on a particular layout that will provide not only the greatly improved facilities for all, but also better access to the loos for all Hall users, and the opportunity to increase consistent Hall usage. The project is moving along, but even as a small Charity, we have to be bound by Planning and Building Regulations and the associated costs and delays. Thank goodness we have appropriate professionals on the

Committee!

As you will have probably realised, the new loos will affect much of the Hall, and we will do our best to disrupt users as little as possible. However, we do ask for your forbearance whilst the work takes place. When this project is done, and the lighting improved, we will be having the Hall redecorated. A busy winter ahead. The internal reorganisation of the Hall will free up some valuable space. A permanent office for the Residents Association, and/or improved storage for all users, or a Village Museum, a Village lending library for books and music…. What new facilities would you like to see in the Hall. Please tell us, using the email contact below.

We are really sad to report another instance of the Hall being left in an untidy and dirty condition after a party. In this instance, the culprit of the Hall was from outside the Village. If you were affected, please accept our apologies. The idea of installing AV equipment in the Hall has

been re-energised by a new resident in the Village who has specific experience in this area. The Hall certainly supports the idea, and so we hope to have something more to discuss soon.

Over the last few weeks, we have been really encouraged by several spontaneous and unheralded comments in support of how the Committee is improving the Hall, its usage and facilities. We do feel that the Memorial Hall is the Heart of the Village, geographically, socially, and emotionally.

We now have a new Facebook Page; please click or search Winchmore Hill Memorial Hall. Please keep an eye on this page for details of what is going on in the Hall, and what is being planned. We also now have an email address which is purely for the Management Committee of the Hall (please note that the bookings email remains the same). If you would like to comment on the Hall in any way, please email winchmorehill.memorial@btinternet.com
